Meghan Statchuk

Meghan earned her BHSc. in the Honours Biology and Pharmacology Co-op program at McMaster University in 2024. During this time, she completed three co-op placements and her senior thesis project. Her first co-op was with Alimentiv, a specialized gastrointestinal contract research organization which provides clinical research services. Her second and third co-ops, along with her senior thesis, were completed at the Bhatia Lab, where she focused on elucidating the mechanism of novel therapeutics.

Following her undergraduate studies, Meghan wanted to continue to explore aspects of cancer drug discovery, inspiring her decision to pursue a MSc degree in the Bhatia lab. Her current project involves employing CRISPR knockout studies to deconvolute the mechanisms of action of candidate drugs that selectively target cancer stem cells (CSCs), with the goal of differentiating generic gene pathways from CSC-specific ones and identifying potential molecular targets for novel cancer therapies.

Fun fact: Meghan is a member of the McMaster figure skating team, enjoys traveling, reading, and running.
