Alexander Qian

Alex obtained his BSc in Medical Sciences at Western University. After taking a year away from science, he enrolled as a Master’s student under the supervision of Dr. Bernardo Trigatti in the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute at McMaster University. There, he developed a passion for immunology through his work uncovering the role of macrophage cell death in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. His enthusiasm for research and collaboration led him to transfer into, and ultimately complete, his PhD in the same lab.

Alex joined the Bhatia program in 2025, drawn by its strong impact on advancing novel translational research for the treatment of AML. He aims to elucidate the heterogeneity of leukemia progenitor cells and identify new pathways for targeted therapy.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys board games and traveling, with the ambitious aim of visiting every UNESCO World Heritage Site around the globe.
