Juan received his BSc. in Biology from University of León and his MSc in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine from the University of the Basque Country. In January 2014 he obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine carried out at the CIC bioGUNE (Dr. Martinez-Chantar's Lab). Juan has published 4 first author publications in top journals of the gastroenterology and hepatology field. Throughout his career, he has performed a PhD internship at the CRBM in France (Dr. Xirodimas' Lab), he has won the Extraordinary Doctorate Award that followed with a 2-year full post-doc fellowship award at the University of the Basque Country (Dr. Aspichueta's Lab).


Juan’s project focuses on tracing the epigenetic transitions that occur from healthy to myelodysplastic syndrome to AML. He loves the extraordinary people he shares the lab with and he aims to start his own research lab one day. Juan is well travelled, having lived or visited over 20 countries!
