DR. LUCA ORLANDO

Luca obtained his BSc and MSc in biotechnology at University of Turin. Following this he received his PhD in human genetics at Prof. Claudia Giachino's laboratory. During his PhD he earned the Marie Curie Early Training Stage 12 months Fellowship and a 6 month visiting student with Prof. Melanie J. Welham' s laboratory (now Executive Chair of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, UK). He has 2 first authorships and several publications in the field of immunology, DNA repair, and pluripotent stem cells.

Luca became a post-doc here in 2013 and now holds a Research Associate role. His project focuses on unlocking the human stem cells differentiation potential for regenerative medicine and cancer differentiation therapies. Luca says the lab provides him the ability to make impactful and translational scientific discoveries which will allow him to reach his goal of starting his own independent research group.

Luca loves to rock and has been a part of 4 bands in 3 different countries.
