CAYLIE SHULL

MSc Student

shullc@mcmaster.ca

Caylie earned her Honours BSc. in Molecular Biology and Genetics at McMaster University in 2022. During this time, she completed two co-op placements in addition to her senior thesis project.  Her first internship, at start-up company Adapsyn Biosciences, lead to her passion for drug development and biotechnology.  She then chose to expand her skillset by completing her thesis in the field of bioinformatics, where she discovered a love for programming.  Her second internship brought her to the Bhatia Program in 2021, where she was drawn to the fast-paced and innovative nature of the lab.

After her undergrad, Caylie remained in the lab to pursue an MSc degree. She is interested in using modern genetic advances to discover new and improved drugs to treat cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia. Her project focuses on using genome-wide CRISPR dropout screening to elucidate targets of novel cancer therapeutics. Caylie loves working along-side all of the brilliant members of the Bhatia program, and hopes to pursue a career in drug development after she graduates.

Fun fact:  Caylie loves to explore the world, and has spent months backpacking through Europe and Southeast Asia.  She can’t wait until her next big backpacking trip, and is always open to suggestions on where her next destination should be!
